Committee Overview
With 77% of devices worldwide using some form of artificial intelligence (AI), its applications are rapidly expanding in function, popularity, and use. The Effects of AI Committee will explore the multitude of problems posed by the swift development of AI in economic, political, and cultural spheres. This committee hopes to address global and sector-specific implications and analyze the future direction of AI.
While AI offers benefits—such as automation or data analysis—it also brings in a plethora of ethical concerns. These include job loss, educational setbacks, environmental harm, and more. As AI develops further, it is essential that questions of ethics remain at the forefront of discussions regarding AI and its future direction. Additionally, the development and deployment of AI have significant implications for international relations as we enter a global AI-arms race. Countries will compete for technological dominance, navigate cross-border data sharing, and grapple with differing ethical and technological standards and regulatory approaches.
Critically examining AI and its future impacts is necessary to foster innovative solutions to maximize benefits which will be the primary focus of delegates in this committee. Simultaneously, it is crucial to put in place checks and balances to mitigate risks and drawbacks in the context of global collaboration and competition.
